Here is the new Citroen e-C3, completely different from the existing version. The car is a crossover (B-SUV), and the old-new Citroen badge has appeared on its grille. The price of the Citroen e-C3 (2024) will start at 23,300 euros. The range of the car from a 44 kWh battery is 320 WLTP units, around 274 kilometres realistically in mixed mode, which is not bad for the segment and great when considering the price. Deliveries will start in Q2 2024, with orders opening on Wednesday 18 October.
/We have updated the price information. It turned out that, contrary to the wording of the press release, the price of €23,300 is gross, not net/
/We use the term “WLTP units” so as not to mislead readers into thinking we mean “kilometers”. It is well known that WLTP ranges are very difficult or unrealistic to achieve/
2024 Citroen e-C3: pricing, trim levels, range. Plus 2025 Citroen e-C3
Compared to the previous version, the car has become less of a hatchback, more of a crossover. The car has lost its roundness and is now more masculine and volkswagen-like. The new Citroen e-C3 is to be available in three trim levels: You, Plus and Max. The price of the Citroen e-C3 was supposed to start “under €25,000” and…. it does! In France, the car is to be available on lease for €99 per month (source).
The You equipment edition is to have, among other things, automatic air conditioning, a spoiler, an automatic braking system in dangerous situations.
Platform and range
The new Citroen e-C3 is built on a platform specifically designed for electric cars (Smart Car Platform). Until now, the Stellantis concern has only had one such platform, the base for the Fiat 500e. But a Citroen representative says of the new product, he also revealed that the platform was developed entirely in Europe, created with efficiency but also ease of production in mind (25 per cent faster production of the car than with the previous C3), so it is difficult to determine whether it could be a modification of the Fiat 500e platform.
The car is powered by an 83 kW/113 hp motor, its battery has a 44 kWh capacity and is based on lithium-iron-phosphate cells. Acceleration 0-100 km/h will take 11 seconds, top speed is 135 km/h.
The Citroen e-C3 has a WLTP range of 320 units, around 274 kilometres realistically in mixed mode and around 192 kilometres on the motorway at 120 km/h [editors’ preliminary calculations]. Which is great for a B-segment model, especially at this price. Direct current (DC) charging from 20 to 80 per cent is expected to take 26 minutes, with a maximum charging power of 83 kW; an 11 kW three-phase AC-DC on-board charger will be available as an option. Note that quoting a charging time from 20 per cent is a rather Chinese practice; in Europe, the range is said to be more like 10-80 per cent.
Dimensions: the Citroen e-C3 is 4.01 metres long, 1.57 metres high, with a boot capacity of 310 litres.
Citroen’s comfort suspension (Progressive Hydraulic Cushions) is fitted as standard in the car. There will also be comfortable seats in the cabin; the manufacturer wants the new e-C3 to be the most comfortable model in the B-segment. A display tucked away in the cockpit has appeared, brand representatives have called it a “HUD”, and for the most part this is a correct term (you don’t have to lower your head to read the meter), although it should not be confused with the projection display on the windscreen.
The central display is 10.25 inches diagonal, but in the You equipment version Citroen talks about a holder for the owner’s phone, which has been dubbed My Citroen Play with Smartphone Station. A separate app will have to be installed to use the car’s multimedia systems on the phone, which also reminds us strongly of the solutions used in China.
Production of the e-C3 has already started on a pilot line in Trnava (Slovakia). The car will be available to order in selected European countries from Wednesday, 18 October. Deliveries will start in the second quarter of 2024.
2025 Citroen e-C3
A new Citroen e-C3 with a smaller battery is due to appear in 2025, which will offer 200 WLTP range units and will cost from €19,990 net. The e-C3 is also expected to have a relative, a 7-seat SUV, which will be presented in the future.
The official launch of the model took place on Tuesday, 17 October, starting at 13.00:
A note from the editors: when we heard the price confirmation, we applauded with joy. Here’s an electric equivalent of the Toyota Yaris Hybrid that, with a surcharge, costs little more than a Yaris. What a nice change from the Jeep Avenger, the Fiat 600 or even the Opel Corsa Electric!
