Following the publication of an earlier article on the Cybertruck, indispensable Readers gave us information that no one in the world seems to have yet, and which comes from reliable sources. The Cybertruck could reach its first customers on 27 October 2023, provided the company receives approval in time. The battery capacity is approximately 130 kWh, a value we only know approximately because it was estimated from the charging curve.
Cybertruck – what we know from trusted sources
The mentioned battery capacity matches the technical data of the Rivian R1T, whose battery in the medium version has 135 kWh. The Ford F-150 Lightning has 131 kWh, so ideally the Cybertruck’s battery should have, say, 136 kWh, so that Tesla’s pickup already looks better on paper than the competition [far-fetched speculation]. On the other hand: Musk’s company does not shy away from giving battery capacities, preferring to familiarise us with ranges.
The demise of the Model Y AWD non-Long Range from the configurator was no coincidence, Tesla is still struggling to mass-produce 4680 cells, there are only enough being made to produce a few hundred Cybertrucks a week. We have heard that these ‘several hundred units’ are in the lower hundreds rather than in the region of a thousand, so the current maximum capacity of Giga Texas does not exceed 25 000 units per year. This fits with Tesla’s earlier announcements that deliveries of the electric pickup will only begin this year.
The Cybertruck’s charging curve is expected to be so-so, similar to that of the Tesla Model Y with 4680 cells. This suggests that charging times in the 10 -> 80 per cent range will be in excess of 30 minutes.
The battery we are describing is to be combined with a two-axle drive implemented by two motors, one per axle (1+1). Towing anything results in a significant drop in range, there is not supposed to be much difference to the cars that are on the market today.
It may be important for our readers to know that there are no plans to sell the Cybertruck outside North America at this time. There is not even a version that would be tailored for the European market.
