In the United States, the option to purchase a color wrap for a Model 3 or Model Y of 2023 or newer has become available. There are seven different colours to choose from, including ‘satin black’, ‘ice blue’, ‘satin rose gold’, ‘crimson red’ and ‘forest green’. The service is provided at selected US service centres, gives the impression of an additional revenue stream and… preparation for the launch of the Cybertruck.

White, red and black have long been available in the paint range – albeit in different shades – while rose gold and green are making their first appearance. The wrapping costs $7,500 or $8,000 and is carried out outside the factory, at two selected service centres in California (USA). The entire operation takes between five and seven working days, includes the door jambs and is made of polyurethane film (PPE). Prices include both the film and its application.
The colour scheme, as you can see, is mixed. The succulent colours are rather dark, ‘too dark for Europe’, but in addition to these there are light shades, including the aforementioned rose gold (source).
Tesla has been experimenting with wraps for a long time, in China it launched the service as early as 2020, for the United States (more precisely: two sites in California) it has decided now, in Europe it is in no hurry for now. And this despite the fact that on the Old Continent, the manufacturer’s paintwork is said to be too dark, prepared for the Californian sun, which the brightness of the light cannot match even on the southern borders of Europe.
And why only now? The most likely explanation is that the company observed enthusiastic reactions to the various Cybertruck wraps (see below, for example). It decided to set up a corresponding service centre, but did not want to lose out on it in the initial phase, when production of the electric pickup would only be ramping up. Therefore, service technicians will be able to adopt to wrap cars on the basis of smaller ones, which will be cheaper to correct if the wrapping goes wrong.
